The provincial government must reverse its decision to cut millions of dollars in funding to First Nations University of Canada (FNUC) now that long overdue reforms are underway, says the head of the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT).

A state of affairs is unfolding in southwestern Saskatchewan which demands the attention of our premier and minister of health. The citizens/voters of this region have legitimate concerns about the policies, directions and leadership of the Cypress Health Region. They have been expressing these concerns in both the local papers and with postings on the Facebook group Save heath-care services in southwestern Saskatchewan.

If you did not know Rob Norris, then you would probably like him. Chances are that you think he is related to Chuck Norris, but he is not (at least not that Chuck Norris). The Rob Norris I speak of is the Saskatchewan Minister of Employment, Labour and Advanced Education, meaning, the man that annually raises our tuition.

The supposed shakedown of NDP MLA Kevin Yates by government "investigators" delving into a leak opens up a myriad of disturbing questions. Here are two: What right do glorified bureaucrats have to question or interfere with an MLA doing his job? And even if they are investigating a specious violation of the civil service code of conduct, could it possibly justify a two-hour shakedown of an Opposition MLA over information he brought forward under the absolute privilege of the legislature?

The Wall government spent like drunken sailors, was terribly wrong with its budget predictions, and now Saskatchewan municipalities are starting to suffer the consequences...Any of this sounding familiar?

At a time when the Saskatchewan government is skating on thin ice financially, a last-minute bill for an extra $500,000 towards its presence at the 2010 Winter Olympics is unwelcome news. Taxpayers are now on the hook for almost $8 million for the Feb. 12-28 games in Vancouver and many will undoubtedly wonder a) why the bill is so high and b) exactly what they are getting for their money.

If you were troubled by Finance Minister Rod Gantefoer's math last year, you might be really bothered by his math going into the 2010-11 budget deliberations. This time, however, the troubling math won't just be quibbling over miscalculations of potash revenue. The troubling math will be the depth of the cuts that we should be expecting in the March budget.

As reported here, Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall has been cobbling together attack ads against NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter lately. The high-priced Toronto advisors that the Wall government consults would go to "bomb the bridge" as the first page in their playbook in almost any circumstance. And these days Premier Wall has particularly good reason to be worried by the experienced and wily NDP Leader across from him in the Saskatchewan Legislature. After all, Mr. Lingenfelter now has some beautiful material to work with. The Wall team, eastern-establishment darlings though they might still be, stand revealed this winter to be as fiscally incompetent as the last Saskatchewan Tory government was (I wrote about some of the details a few weeks ago).

Saskatchewan people have a reputation for helping their neighbour, and for routinely incredible responses in the face of a pressing need. They have come together again to help the victims of last week's earthquake in Haiti. The Saskatchewan Day of Caring For Haiti generated over $600,000 dollars in just 12 hours. The final total from the province-wide radiothon on News Talk 650 CKOM and 980 CJME was $620,880.60.

Premier Brad Wall weighed in on the prorogation of Parliament this week when he spoke to reporters for the first time since before Christmas. And not surprisingly for a man who made "give peace a chance" his mantra in dealing with the federal government and who has been described as one of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's closest allies among provincial leaders, Wall had no problem with the PM's decision to put off the starting date from January to March.
